Frequently asked

The questions behind the spec sheet

Short, data-first answers to the questions buyers ask most before choosing a phone.

How many years of updates should I expect from a new phone?

Samsung and Google promise seven years on their current flagships and the Pixel 9a. OnePlus promises four Android versions plus six years of security patches. Apple publishes no fixed figure. EU rules from 20 June 2025 require at least five years of OS updates after a model leaves sale.

Does a bigger battery capacity always mean longer battery life?

No. Capacity in mAh is only one input. Chip efficiency, display type and software tuning decide how long a charge lasts, so check independent endurance tests alongside the rating.

Do more megapixels make a better camera?

Not by themselves. Sensor size, lens aperture, optical zoom range and image processing have a larger effect on real photos than the headline megapixel count.

What does an IP68 rating actually cover?

IP68 under IEC 60529 means dust-tight and protected against continuous immersion in fresh water beyond one metre, to a depth and time the maker specifies. Liquid damage is usually still excluded from warranty.

What is the difference between LTPO and standard OLED?

LTPO panels vary their refresh rate from very low up to 120 Hz, saving power on static content. Standard OLED panels typically switch between fewer fixed rates.

Is wireless charging worth having?

It is convenient for desks and bedsides but slower than a good cable. Qi2 adds magnetic alignment for better efficiency. Check that the phone supports the standard and that you are happy with the wattage.

Should I choose Android or iPhone?

Choose by ecosystem and support. iPhones hold resale value well and share accessories with Apple devices. Android offers wider hardware choice and, from Samsung and Google, a written seven-year update promise.

How much storage do I need?

128 GB suits light use. Choose 256 GB if you record a lot of 4K video or keep offline media, because most flagships have no microSD slot.

How do you weigh one phone against another?

We weight camera 30 percent, battery and charging 25, display 20, update support 15 and build and ports 10. The weights are editorial and we publish them so you can adjust them.
